Cotton Woods HOA Fruita

We had a new addition to the flock last night around dusk: meet Cotton. Named after Cotton Woods. We have set some animal crackers out, for sheep treats, if you would like to meet Cotton and crew. The animal crackers are in front of the chain link fence, which is not "hot". The rest of the fencing is electrified and may zap a little if you make contact. Keep an eye on little ones, please, when they go out to visit.  Water levels continue to be erratic. It is a blessing that we still have water at all with the drought, and that may change. We will keep you posted. 

The sheep are back! We started out with 29 weaning ewes and one very happy ram. Lambs will be added to the flock after the mamas have had a little break from them. Please come and visit, we will set out animal crackers. Please don't feed them anything else, they have plenty of feed.  If you see a predator or a sheep in distress, please call Robert and Kyle Andrews of High Country Environmental Grazing LLC at 970-260-2130.  And... now for the bad news. The water is very low and very dirty. We apologize, but this is out of our control. There may be times when the pumps kick off because the irrigation holding tank gets too low. Sorry. 

We received word today that the sheep herd is fixing to move into the northern common area along the Compton Drainage Ditch in the very near future. Please read the message below from the sheep herder: " Our intent is to provide a flock to graze the area no later than the evening of 15 July, 2026. The size of this flock will be determined by the number of sheep that either have lambs at their side that are old enough to safely graze and have received the appropriate course of vaccinations. We have a significant concern regarding heat stress, heat exhaustion and heat stroke with the flock and lambs due to current temperatures consistently being in excess of 100 degrees. Their fleece provides a level of cooling, however, their current shorter staple and the young lambs ability to regulate body temperature is a concern, so we ask that residents in the area help keep an eye on the flock for signs of overheating, as this can prove to be fatal very quickly. The water levels on the lateral are looking a little low this evening. We've done everything we can to keep as much water as possible coming this way. You can help the pumps keep running by following the water schedule and choosing to water either during the morning or evening assigned times (not both). Water levels are forecasted to keep falling as the summer wears on and the river falls lower. The Board has no control over Nature. The Board has been asked to publicly announce that neighbors should not be moving or removing boards in the lateral ditch. If this is Greek to you, no worries, the Board does not suspect any of our neighbors of doing so but we are honoring the request regardless.  Update: We can confirm the pumps shut off late last night or early this morning due to low water levels in the holding tank. Hello friends, We have a leak on the west side of the subdivision that cannot be isolated. We turned the pumps off and will have someone take a look at the damage tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience! Update 7/03: This break is a little deeper than we had anticipated. We are getting it prepared for a fix next week: most supply stores are closed for the holiday.
