Winds and Cut Grass, Not a Lack of Water

Image
Good morning! We got a call about a lack of water, and we found that with the high winds lately the loose cut grass from the farmer's fields are clogging up the irrigation ditches.  We cleaned up the water wheel and the grates between 19 Road and our holding tank. There are several other grates between the Headgate and the grates that we cleaned this morning. Hopefully this system will bring us rain and the winds will subside. If you have the time and desire to volunteer to keep the grates clean and the system running, please send the Board an email and we can make arrangements to show you the ropes. Thank you!

City of Fruita Irrigation Outage - Do Not Panic

Image
You may have seen on social media that the City of Fruita will be turning their irrigation water off to install a meter. This has no effect on the Cotton Woods HOAs, and, because we do not engage on social media, we wanted to alleviate any stress this may be causing you on our Blog Page. Here is the City of Fruita's Announcement: 𝐈𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐. Irrigation water will be shut off for the following areas: property between 18 ½ Road, K Rd, and Myers Lane; and property between 18 ½ Road, Ottley Avenue, and Carolina Avenue. The map shows, in a light blue color, which areas will be without irrigation water. Crews will be performing routine maintenance and installing a new water meter. We appreciate the community’s patience! As you can see, the areas highlighted in light blue DO NOT include any of the areas within the jurisdiction of the Cotton Woods HOA. Our Headgate (Main Line 440) is located at 1976 K Ro...

Compton Drainage Ditch Flooding on Trail

Image
We have seen an increase in the amount of flooding along the back trail as local farmers have cut their first harvest of alfalfa: they are dumping their irrigation water to allow the cutting to dry, and that extra water stresses the drainage system. Once the alfalfa is bailed and removed, this should ease the flooding some, but conversely it may affect the level of irrigation water reaching our irrigation holding tank. This is normal: do not panic. Your Board has opened up a dialogue again with the Grand Valley Drainage District to address long-term solutions for increased development coming to the area, and possible complications to the Compton Drainage Ditch's capability to safely and effectively move tail water through our property without causing further damage.
